MEET SARAH THE REBEL

MEET SARAH THE REBEL

The wild side of Los Angeles is the home of a dynamo of sheer fury in the ring.
Packing a powerful 130 pounds on her 5 foot frame, Sarah the Rebel has been
living up to her name, doing what she wants in defiance of polite society’s norms.

And these days, what she wants to do is tear it up in the squared circle!
Wrestling first spoke to her in her childhood. “I really got into it when I was
flipping through channels and saw Chyna. Her, Luna and Miss Jackie were my
inspirations.” Even at such a young age, she started to give thought to pursuing
a pro wrestling career someday, admitting, “I like to hit people, and I’m pretty
entertaining. I thought I should give it a try, and then I fell in love with it.
It’s addicting.”

When she grew old enough, she sought out training from some of the best
instructors in Southern California: the Santino Bros., the NJPW LA Dojo, and the
WOW Dojo. She proved to be a particularly adept student, mastering a wide array
of holds and moves. But she adds that the secret to a successful match isn’t
simply what you step into the ring knowing, but also if you have the cardio
and endurance to see a bout through from beginning to end, which is why she works
hard in the gym to build up both.

And in her matches, she definitely gets physical. “I like to use my entire body
to keep my opponents down,” she says. But with so many of those opponents towering
over the diminutive girl, she definitely needs to throw her whole self into the
fight to make up for what she lacks in height.

Of course, she isn’t just a ‘smashmouth rassler’ in the ring. She’s just as likely
to have an adversary reeling from a Senton or Trapped Arm Lariat, demonstrating how
seriously she takes the complexities of technical wrestling.

And as befits someone who claims the name of “Rebel”, Sarah isn’t shy about
agitating behind the scenes for what she says the sport needs: better pay and health
insurance. She says she’s been lucky so far that the only injuries she’s sustained
have been in training, but she knows that one bad moment in a match can have serious
consequences, and she’d like to see wrestlers have some sort of safety net in
that unfortunate situation.

Such opinions might close doors for other wrestlers, but Sarah has proven herself
so accomplished in the ring, and so popular with fans, she’s had no trouble getting
work from a variety of promotions, including OVW, WOW, CWFH, GCW, GLAM (Hoodslam),
Empower, and the PGWA.

Self-admittedly, her popularity with fans is somewhat unexpected. “I’m a bit creepy,”
she confesses. So what is it that the fans are responding to so favorably with her?
“I march to the beat of my own drum, but one thing is guaranteed…I’m always going
to be 100% real!”

And in a world where some people still aren’t so certain there’s a place for women
in professional wrestling, Sarah the Rebel makes her response to them crystal clear:
“We’ve been doing it since the 1940s, and there’s no stopping us now!”
