March 18, 2022 will go down in Michigan indy wrestling history..it was the night
that two tough gals entered the ring in a series of death matches for downriver
Brownstown, Michigan’s HORROR SLAM.
Randi West and Mickie Knuckles have met each other before in matches around
the country, but none could match the shear brutality seen in the ring on this
fateful evening.
Just to start off the night, Ms West entered the ring with two circles of barbed wire.
(It wasn’t as if extra weapons were needed, because this was HORROR SLAM,
which is rapidly gaining a reputation for anything goes. The referees, in fact, wear
industrial steel gloves just to ensure they didn’t get involved themselves in the
eventual bloodfests.)
The two ladies tore into each other like rabid dogs. Using florescent light tubes
as baseball bats, they were both bleeding within minutes. One ringsider looking
to add some spice to the insanity brought along a plastic jug of dark yellow liquid.
Taking a much needed break, the girls paused to check out the jug
—it was filled with urine– or at least what smelled like it. It wasn’t long before
both of them were getting drenched in the evil contents of the jug.
Knuckles clearly had the weight advantage but West has been training hard in
the gym and it did show–she gave as much as she took. Punches were getting
thrown by both that looked twice as hard as the men that had wrestled before
them. It wasn’t a matter of somebody getting knocked out, but when.
It had to end–and it almost ended with a fatality. Knuckles jumped to the floor,
set up a table, four chairs, a door, a sheet of glass and climbed back into the
ring looking for her prey. West was playing possum though and starting slugging
it out again. Turning the tables on Knuckles, West used the top rope to flip the
two of them over—directly onto the deadly weapons. They both crashed through
the middle but West went a little too far and her head landed on the concrete floor.
Neither girl could move and the entire building went silent as various wrestlers
poured out of the locker room to render aid. Blood was spreading rapidly and
the panic was very real.
Knuckles screamed for towels and wrapped up West’s head trying to stop the
flow of blood. And then she picked up her helpless opponent and carried her like
a baby back to the dressing room. Knuckles was declared the winner — but it is
fair to say that nobody won this war and nobody would argue the point.
The list of Randi West’s injuries read like those of a major car crash. Badly gashed
forehead, stitches in various areas of entire body, badly bruised hip and thigh, and
nearly cracked elbow. To top it off, a mild (??!) concussion.
Safe to say, it wasn’t your typical ladies wrestling match.
