TROUBLE TIMES TWO FOR AMERICA'S SWEETHEART

Scarlett Rose

by S. Mata

Scarlett Rose had been thinking about returning to the PGWA for a long time. But the only thing that kept her from coming back was... herself.

"I didn't want to keep wrestling in the PGWA at the level I was at", she reports. "I was good, but I wanted to be better. I took some time, I worked on my skills, and I found myself. Now, I know I'm a much better wrestler than I was before, and that's going to make all of the difference."

And she found herself having to prove just how good she now is on the night she returned to the organization, at a card promoted by Southern All-Star Wrestling in Millersville, Tennessee . For on that night, she had to battle not one opponent, but two!

Her scheduled match was against Belle Von Black, one of the most accomplished of newcomers to the PGWA. The woman known as the 'Dark Princess' is only one of two females to emerge from Stu Hart's legendary Dungeon training center, and she had proven herself an accomplished wrestler in her native Canada before moving to the U.S.

And in addition to her ring abilities, Von Black has a mean streak a mile wide. Just how cruel is she? Well, the day before this match was held, the final Harry Potter book was released, and the brunette laughingly sneered in the locker room that once she "finished off the cheerleader," she was going to grab her copy of the book and the ring microphone and read the last chapter out loud, ruining the ending for those in the audience who hadn't finished the book themselves yet! Now THAT is just plain mean.

Going into this match, Scarlett was under no delusions that it was going to be a tremendous challenge. And that it was. As the battle was waged, the realization slowly dawned on the young blond that, as skilled as she is, she probably was not going to overcome the Hart-sculpted skills of her opponent.

So, if she wasn't going to out-wrestle Belle, she would have to out-wit her instead. Luckily for Scarlett, her adversary proved as vain and brash as she was skillful. Not once did it ever occur to Von Black that her opponent could beat her, so she never completely took Scarlett's threat seriously. That proved to be a fatal mistake for the Dark Princess, as ‘ America 's Sweetheart' managed to cannily outsmart her adversary and put her shoulders to the mat for three following a tumultuous battle!

The match had certainly taken its toll on the blond, as she rolled out of the ring and limped back to the locker room. For all of the thrill of victory she felt tonight, she wanted nothing more than to get a hot shower and work the aches out of her body. But that wasn't about to happen... .

Nearing the backstage entryway, Scarlett saw the curtains flung open, and out stepped another woman named Kylie Pierce. She had come into the SAW territory several weeks earlier, proclaiming her intention to be the top "babyface" in the organization. But if so, she had a curious way of demonstrating on this night what her definition of a "face" was. Halting Scarlett, Kylie announced that after having had to face the rulebending tactics of Belle, the blond deserved a "clean, honest match" with her, and that the fans deserved to see one. Scarlett tried to beg off, saying that she was too exhausted from her match to wrestle again, but Pierce was insistent. Still, Rose declined... until Kylie, claiming she was insulted, laid a slap across the blonde's face!

That did it. Scarlett told the promoter, who had quickly stepped between the two women, that just as soon as she could catch her second wind, she'd face the brunette in the ring. Smugly, Kylie turned and wordlessly sauntered back to the locker room, clearly quite happy that she was getting her way.

A word about Kylie Pierce: a child of privilege and hailing from the Hamptons, where homes valued in the low seven figures are considered "quaint", she is a young woman quite used to getting what she wants, when she wants it. And in this instance, she seemed to want Scarlett Rose's head on a platter. Presumably, having declared herself the Number One Face in Millersville meant that Ms. Pierce would brook no rivalry from a fellow scientific wrestler. For Kylie, she would have to be the first, the last, and the everything.

The match started out clean, but right from the start, Pierce was most unhappy that the fans seemed to be cheering her opponent more than they were cheering her, and it didn't take long before the brunette started engaging in some rougher tactics. And further working against Scarlett was the fact that she was still sore and tired from her earlier match, robbing her of much-needed speed and endurance.

Things looked particularly bad for Rose late in the battle, when her opponent slammed a brutal forearm smash to the blonde's throat, leaving her unable to breath for several frightening moments! Knowing she could not last much longer in this match, Scarlett went for broke with a daring flip and pinfall maneuver, and managed to hold Kylie's shoulders to the mat for the three seconds she needed to win! But it was a very near thing; had Pierce been able to break free, the blond may not have been able to continue the fight. As it was, she was only barely able to make her way back to the locker room under her own steam, and it was nearly a full hour later before she was recovered enough to be able to say a few brief words to the LadySports reporter... and even then, she had to lean against a wall in order to keep herself upright.

Without a doubt, this night had taken Scarlett Rose to her limits, and maybe just a little bit beyond. But she still found it within herself to claim both victories despite the odds against her. If she was looking for proof that she is a better wrestler now than she ever was, she couldn't ask for anything more definitive.

America's Sweetheart is back in the PGWA, and ready for whatever challenges come her way!
