Q & A: SUSAN MORTON

by Shiai Mata

The addition of Susan Morton to the PGWA's cards in Tennessee on March 31 and April 1 is, for many Mid-Southern wrestling fans, a case of "About time!" Columbia, Tennessee native Susan has long been impressing fans in the Volunteer State, and at long last, her entry into the PGWA may just be what helps break her into the national spotlight. LadySports Online was pleased to be able to sit down with the brunette grappler recently.

Q: Susan, how about a quick statistical rundown?
A: I'm 5'10 1/2", 173 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. My birthday is October the 1st.

Q: When did you start wrestling?
A: In 1998 for CCW.

Q: Who influenced you the most to become a wrestler?
A: My husband, Shane. Seeing him put his heart and soul into wrestling made me appreciate the sport so much more.

Q: What other sports or hobbies do you have an interest in?
A: I love Texas Hold 'em poker and playing golf.

Q: If you had the power, what is the one thing you would do to improve the sport?
A: Go back to the "Old School" wrestling days.

Q: Let's learn a bit more about you outside of the ring. What are your favorite foods and music?
A: I love Italian pasta, plus country cooking. Musically, I would say that my favorite is Guns N Roses, but I love all music, and I listen to everything!

Q: What would make you most happy in life?
A: Winning the lottery!

Q: What are your fans like?
A: They are very supportive.

Q: What is your favorite move in the ring?
A: The Short Arm Clothesline.

Q: What are you best known for in the ring?
A: Brawling! I have had some mean street fights!

Q: What's the worst you've been injured in a match?
A: I had my right big toe nail kicked off! Talk about PAIN...!

Q: Where have you wrestled?
A: CCW, CWA, IWA, SCA, ASW, NWA, No Fear Wrestling, and soon the PGWA and USWO.

Q: What titles have you held?
A: Currently I am the IWA Ladies Champion.

Q: What comments or reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
A: I get asked a lot, "Why do you put your body through so much pain?" But of course the reply I give is that the person I'm wrestling has equal...if not more...pain, and that makes it worth it.

Q: In your opinion, what are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
A: I think because we are women, we have to prove ourselves even more so. So nothing under 110% will do!

Q: What is your greatest professional regret?
A: Not having had the opportunity to have wrestled such greats as Penny Banner, Belle Starr, Kay Noble, and so many other legends.

Q: What is your most marked characteristic?
A: My outgoing personality, no doubt about it.

Q: What is your personal motto?
A: To be the best that I can be!

Q: What are you most memorable ring moments?
A: My matches with Leilani Kai, Tim Renesto, and Rick Reynolds.

Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: I am a fun, easy going person. I like fun people, wrestling, and I LOVE taking long, hot relaxing baths. I dislike people trying to be something they aren't.

Q: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us Susan.
A: It's been my pleasure.
