LadySports Looks at Sarah Lynn

by PGWA Staff

Sarah Lynn is brand-spanking new to the PGWA. At 5'9" and 150 pounds, she has the physical tools to be a tough opponent in the ring... as she recently proved in her PGWA debut match against the brutal Kacee Carlisle.

The West Virginia native started her wrestling training in early 2006, and studied for an intensive eight months before her first matches in October of that year. Not wanting to simply rely upon her raw power in the ring, Sarah was intent on becoming the best possible technical wrestler she could be... and that includes having mastered a few high-flying maneuvers, which certainly comes as a surprise to opponents who don't expect such tactics from such a towering adversary. Her instructors say that she almost seems to love punishing herself with a grueling workout, and often has to roll out of the ring at the end, because she's too exhausted to climb out! "My younger brother got me interested in training to be a pro, but I've always had a love for the sport," she tells us.

Wrestling has shown her that there is something she can do on her own, and something she can go to when she wants to get away from the world and just do her own thing. It requires a great deal of dedication and hard work, which makes the rewards and successes all the sweeter, because she has truly earned them.

She comes to the sport with a longtime athletic background, including 13 years of playing softball. But she's always been willing to try just about any sport out there.

Naturally, she would like to see more women getting into wrestling... and not just as T&A eye candy. Having worked so hard to learn her craft, she wants to pit her skills against other similarly-dedicated wrestlers.

Sarah has some very loyal fans, and they love her. She always tries to give them 110 percent back, both in and out of the ring. She's conscious of the fact that she needs to set a good example, particularly to young girls. A cornerstone to that belief is her insistence on sticking to the rules in her matches; she wants to prove that hard work and fair play pays off in the end much better than cheating ever will.

Of course, being a positive role model isn't the only reason she steps into the ring. "I'd be really happy making lots and lots of money wrestling," she says with a laugh.

There's no denying that she is incredibly dedicated to wrestling, but such dedication to her work can come with a price... and it has: Sarah broke her ankle back in early 2007, but she's back on the road to the top now. "It set me back, but now I'm ready for anyone", she says with a smile.

She's wrestled in Tennessee, North Carolina, and her native West Virginia so far, and has even had one WV organization‘s Women's Championship belt grace her waist. Not surprisingly, she‘d love to win more gold elsewhere. She doesn‘t like to differentiate between large and small promotions, or consider any more important than others. "They‘re all important, and I respect equally the promoters who give me and other women a chance to wrestle for them. It's a challenge sometimes to prove that women have a role in the sport, and I enjoy rising to that challenge anywhere, anytime."

Just talking to Sarah there is a certain magic that sparkles in her eyes when she talks wrestling. The PGWA certainly sees great potential in her when it comes to sheer determination and raw desire to be the best. She puts her heart into every workout and every match.

"The more you put into wrestling," she insists, "the more you'll get out of it."

So, keep your eyes open for this talented young beauty. She's got the confidence and the talent to go places. Her attitude and willingness to jump in the ring and prove herself is all the proof the PGWA needs to know to feel she's going to go far in wrestling!
