SPOTLIGHT: ROXSANNE MATHENA
“Just do it!”
If you don’t know the name of Roxsanne Mathena…well, you should! She’s a 17 year veteran of the sport, one of
those hard-working women who are the backbone of ladies wrestling. While still a teenager, the Hollywood,
California native came East to seek out one of pro wrestling’s most flamboyant
legends, Jimmy ‘Boogie Woogie Man’ Valiant himself, to teach her the art of
wrestling. In the years since, she’s
proven to be a mainstay of the Mid-Atlantic independent scene. Unsung for her efforts for far too long,
LadySports is very happy to help introduce “Foxy Roxy” to a larger audience!
LADYSPORTS: Welcome to LadySports, Roxsanne! Can you tell us who trained
you?
ROXSANNE MATHENA: I trained at Boogie’s
Wrestling Camp in Shawsville,Virginia, taught by Jimmy Valiant himself.
LS: How long have you been in the sport?
RM: I have been wrestling since I was 18.
LS: How would you describe yourself as a wrestler, persona-wise?
RM: Funny and high flyer!
LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your
workout?
RM: I eat right and go jogging, hiking and
walking. That is important to me.
LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
RM: I am a high flyer as well as a
grappler.
LS: And who has been your biggest ally?
RM: Scott Blaze.
LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but
haven't yet?
RM: Mickey James.
LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
RM: If I had the power, I would like to
see more respect for the sport.
LS: Any other sports and activities you enjoy?
RM: Biking swimming hiking.
LS: Any regrets?
RM: No regrets yet.
LS: What is your personal motto?
RM: Do not think about it, just do it!
LS: And lastly, anything else you'd like to add?
RM: Yes…thank you for your time, and
enjoy life!
