Riptide vs Luna Vachon

But such epic struggles are not left only to mythology. Modern day goddesses still can and do wage battles that are the stuff of legends. Most recent was the PGWA’s FALL FREE-FOR-ALL match between the legendary Luna Vachon and the awesome Riptide! In a way, Luna is like a Titan. She is clearly a major force in the sport, and has been for twenty years. Her heritage alone…carrying on the tradition of Mad Dog, Butcher and Vivian Vachon…is enough to make her a star. But she has never been one to simply rest on her pedigree; she has boldly made her own way in the sport, and as a result she stands at an exalted level which few wrestlers every know. And Riptide would like nothing better than to knock Luna down from that pedestal. Much like the Olympians, whatever respect she may have for Luna means nothing in her quest to be the best. Thus, the battlefield was set for a confrontation of myth-making proportions…and the stakes were only raised when Luna announced she would be putting her Universal Hard-Core Queen of Mean title belt on the line, and that the rulebook would be thrown out for this match! Right from the opening bell, the kid’s gloves were off! Luna was taken aback by the aggressive savageness of her opponent, and Riptide held control of the fight in the opening minutes, punishing the blond with a withering assault that would have driven many other women to surrender. Yet, Vachon held on, and as Riptide arrogantly stalked her rival around the ring, Luna cannily waited for the exact moment to strike back, unleashing her own relentless attack on the self-professed Ultimate Fighting Machine. The two traded kicks, punches, submission holds, low blows and anything else they could think of; more than once, Riptide wrapped a foreign object around Vachon’s throat to strangle the veteran! As the minutes ticked by and the battle raged, victory could have gone either way at any time. But then, a small miscalculation by Luna, coupled with Riptide shrewdly taking advantage of the momentary opportunity, spelled doom for Vachon. With the tolling of the bell, Riptide now held the championship belt, and Luna had suffered a rare defeat! In retrospect, Luna might have done well to recall that the Titans, for all of their power and glory, were defeated by the Olympians and cast down from the mountaintop. |
