Portia Perez

Ridiculously Awesome

by Shiai

Portia Perez is ridiculously awesome... as she'll gladly insist. This international superstar (and that's not just self-professed... she's wowed fans across her native Canada, around the United States, down in Mexico, and in several European countries) has done what few other 5'4” and 127 pound girls have done... she's taken on some of the very best in the sport and, if not always having beaten them, she's at least let them known they've been in a hell of a fight!

You want proof? Okay, how's this... in one 24 hour period in June of 2007, Portia wrestled three times against five different women: First, Daizee Haze. Next, a 4 Corners Match against Ariel, Eden Black and Nikki Roxx. And lastly (but not leastly!) she faced MsChif... and for her troubles she came away from the ring with a busted hand. But while the bone may have been broken, her spirit most definitely was not; just as soon as it had mended, she was back between the ropes and taking on all comers.

Among that laundry list of worthy opponents was none other than Nikki Roxx, certainly one of the most accomplished women in the sport today. Indeed, in many respects, Nikki is on the top of her game right now. So it had to come as something of a shock to Ms. Roxx and her legion of fans when Perez managed to beat her. Not once, but twice!

"Everywhere I go," she tells LadySports Online, "people stop and ask me, ‘Portia, how did you do it? How did you manage to beat Nikki Roxx so very many times?' And I look at them and say, ‘Kid, get the hell away from me, I'm trying to eat a waffle here.' But today, you all get the answer that you've been waiting for. You see, everyone seems pretty fond of Nikki these days, and with good reason; Nikki Roxx is one of the best women's wrestlers around. BUT, the secret to my winningness and constant success is that, I am just plain better. My wrestling skills are stellar, my biceps are epic, and I am all around really, really, ridiculously awesome. And I'm Canadian, too.”

Never one to miss an opportunity to trumpet her own greatness, nor to miss seizing a golden opportunity, Portia has decided to challenge Nikki yet again, deciding that third time will be the charm for her. And as her ”reward” for scoring the hat trick, she's decided to lay a challenge down for Roxx's PGWA Championship belt!

"The thing is, even with my awesomeness, I can only keep things interesting for so long", she says with an air of almost casual disdain. "Beating Nikki Roxx was fun for awhile, but I was running out of new and exciting ways to ruin her day. So I thought to myself, ‘maybe I should think outside the box. Maybe I shouldn't just try to ruin her day. I should raise the bar, challenge myself. And that's when it came to me. The PGWA title deserves to be taken out of the United States and in to Canada, a country of true champions. And more importantly, I deserve to hold the PGWA Title – and I intend to take it from Nikki Roxx."

The contracts have been signed, and these two women will meet in Nashville, Tennessee on February the 15th. In addition to being a title match, it will mean the debut of Portia in the PGWA at last, something which the organization has been hoping to accomplish since she was first profiled early in her career here at LadySports Online. At that time, in spite of her relative newness to the sport, she was already vaulting up the ladder of success. And in the time since, if anything, she's become even more successful than perhaps even she had hoped for in those early days.

And should lighting strike a third time and Roxx go down to defeat, with the belt finding it's way to the Canadian contender's waist, Portia Perez will go down in the history books as, definitively and irrefutably, Ridiculously Awesome!
