THE HOUSE OF L'VINN

Former Champion Develops a New Generation of Talent

by Shiai Mata/PGWA Staff

Pippa L'Vinn has a proven track record of being both a championship amateur as well as professional wrestler. And now, she can add Trainer to her resume. Earlier this year, the former PGWA Champion opened up her own training facility and wrestling venue in Manchester, England. This has been quite an undertaking, but so far things are going very well. The gym has a plenty of features including dressing rooms, heavy and speed bags of boxing, showers, a lounge, as well as the large training room with a world class ring. Pippa always knew that when she opened her own facility, she wanted it to be the very best, so she took great care in creating this one for herself.

Pippa has several girls she has been working with, and our feature on LadySports Online spotlights a new student by the name of Simone. She hails from Germany, speaks but a little English, but is a solid athlete in the ring with tremendous skill and determination. Working with the youngster, the experienced L'Vinn has a gut feeling about her that says, "you just know she is going to be a great wrestler."

After a few weeks of working out twice a day, Pippa scheduled a match with her to see just how much her new protege had learned, and how aggressive she might be against a seasoned opponent. Luckily, Pippa consented to allow a LadySports photographer to be present to capture this 'Show Me What You Have Got Match'! Simone went into this knowing that, training match or not, a great deal was riding on her performance. If she failed to meet her mentor's expectations, the young brunette could easily find herself being sent packing back to Germany. Needless to say, not only were expectations met, but the youngster actually managed to surprise and seriously impress Pippa! Hold after Hold and escape after escape, Simone showed no fear and took what she had learned from L'Vinn and applied it masterfully. Of course, as the wily L'Vinn explained, she has held back from teaching her pupil everything she knows....

" I am no fool," explained Pippa. "I have no intention of teaching her any of my secrets...hard-learned secrets of submissions and strategies of how I, Pippa L'Vinn, would win matches. She's gonna have to figure out that on her own!"

"Simone is a big, strong girl...a natural athlete. She is outstanding as a mat grappler, and give her some time, and she'll wiping up the ring with some of the girls...just wait, watch, and see for yourself! At 5'9" tall and approximately 170 pounds, I had my hands full with this gal."

Pippa thinks Simone will be a credit to women's wrestling. "There are lots of girls who have contacted me about training, and I am happy to help. Many girls who watch the WWE and some of the promotions here think wrestling is all show. When they come to the gym and try out for the first time, I show them what wrestling is all about, and some of these girls change their mind rather quickly. Wrestling is just be too rough of a sport for some."

L'Vinn has certainly paid her dues and earned a piece of immortality for herself as a wrestler, but now it seems as though she wants to further her legacy by training newcomers to be the next wave of Pippa L'Vinn's in the sport. Thus far, Simone at least is very grateful for the opportunity to work with the Mancunian.
