BIG MAMA'S BIG NIGHT

NEMESIS PGWA ROOKIE of the YEAR!

Ordinarily, saying that your wrestling puts people to sleep is NOT a good thing!

But for Nemesis, it was not only good... it resulted in victory!

On January the 28th, she participated in the first-ever PGWA sanctioned match on one of AIW's fabled "Girls Night Out" live events. This, the third GNO card, featured such outstanding talent as Isis, Sara del Rey, Mickie Knuckles, Roxie Cotton, and the AIW Ladies Champion, Angel Dust. For this special opportunity, the PGWA knew they not only wanted to feature Nemesis... who is fast becoming one of the most popular newcomers in the promotion... but also put her up against an opponent in a match which would have real significance.

Thus, the choice of Sin-D... the former mentor of Nemesis and now her hated rival... made perfect sense. And after a confrontation between the two women at their contract signing, a special stipulation was made: this would be a "Lights Out" match, meaning that the only way to win would be to knock the other wrestler out!

Both women stepped into the ring utterly determined to lay the other out, but in the end, it was Nemesis who managed to send Sin-D to slumberland, courtesy of a magnificently applied sleeperhold! (For more details of the match, stay tuned for its release as both a download and on DVD... soon!)

But as tremendous a rush as it was to have her arm raised in victory while her hated foe lay beaten at her feet, even that moment was topped by what came next... !

To her utter shock and surprise, Nemesis was announced at the 2010 PGWA Rookie of the Year! As the plaque she was present proclaimed...

This award has been presented to Nemesis in recognition of your outstanding wrestling competition, professionalism, determination, exceptional efforts, commitment, and dedication during the 2010 schedule of wrestling events.

She joins some pretty heady company as ROTY, including Joanie "Chyna" Lauer (1996), Amber O'Neal (2000) and Christie Ricci (2002). Indeed, the Rookie award was put on hold after 2003, but was revived again now at least in part because of the exceptional work of Nemesis and several other ladies who were also contenders for the award... a fact which we feel bodes well for the coming generation of lady wrestlers.

All in all, we're certain it was a night which Nemesis won't soon forget!

The PGWA would like to again congratulate Nemesis, and also to thank the good people at Absolute Intense Wrestling for having hosted us at their event.

NEMESIS IN HER OWN WORDS

In the glowing aftermath of one supremely successful evening, we asked Nemesis to sum up the events in her own words.

"Going into 'Girls Night Out 3', I knew I had a daunting challenge ahead: finally squaring off in full animosity with my former mentor. But if there was one thing she taught me, it was to never, ever give up without a fight... and I aimed to give her the fight of her life.

Sin-D is always a dangerous opponent, and going into the ring my nerves were fired up. But when the pressure's on, that's when Big Mama performs best!

She put up a tough challenge... I've never fought anyone as quick as she is, and she knows every maneuver in the book. But she made the mistake back in the day of teaching me to never let up once I had my opponent on the mat, and that's just what I did. I learned that lesson and her words rang true as I grounded and pounded her. It was so satisfying, feeling her get weaker and going limp as my sleeper put her away.

I'll bet next time she'll learn to not give away so many secrets!

The fans may have been in love with her when she stepping into the ring, but by the time the match was over, they saw the sheer beauty of true ability, and they were chanting my name and tearing the roof off with their cheers.

Not to sound arrogant, but my winning came as no surprise to me. I knew there was no way in the world Sin-D was going to beat me. But I was totally surprised afterward, when I was announced as the PGWA Rookie of the Year!

Getting this award was the icing on the cake in recognition of the great year I had in 2010, and frankly, it's just the sort of recognition which Big Mama has earned and she deserves. 2011 is going to be even bigger; the PGWA and the whole damned wrestling world had better be ready for me, because as Sin-D learned, there's no stopping Nemesis now!"

Additionally, once she regained consciousness and had dressed, we managed to catch up with Sin-D, and we also asked her for her thoughts. She had only one concise statement to make:

"Nemesis had better enjoy being Rookie of the Year, because when I'm done with her, she won't be around the sport long enough to ever make Veteran of the Year!"
