Ms. International Contest

Story and Photos by John B McFarlin

March 5, 2010 will go down in women's bodybuilding history, as Iris Kyle won the coveted title of Ms. International for a record-setting 5th time.

The contest, held at Veterans Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio was the ladies' "Friday Night Main Event" of the huge Arnold Sports Festival during March 4-7.

No slam dunk to be sure, the capacity audience witnessed another titannic battle between Kyle and her arch rival Yaxeni Oriquen who had won the Ms. International four previous times. Fact of the matter is that since 2002, Kyle and Oriquin have been the Ali-Frazier of women's bodybuiding. No single bodybuilder--man or woman, has ever been a five time winner.

A resident of Katy, Texas, the 5'7 163lb Kyle added $25,000 to go along with her title. Shes come a long way from her birthplace in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Born in 1974, she played softball and ran cross country. As a Senior she was a High School All American in basketball, and accepted an athletic scholarship to Alcorn State in Lorman, Mississippi.

At 36 years old, she may not yet even be in her prime!

For 2nd place, Ms Oriquen won $13,000. Debi Laszewski placed 3rd, and won $8,000.

Lisa Aukland was in 4th place and awarded $5,000. Fifth and Sixth place went to Betty Pariso and Dayana Cadeau respectively.
