LADYSPORTS SPOTLIGHT: MARY KELLY

Q & A Mary Kelly

Mary, Mary... Quite Contrary!

Mary Kelly is a young woman of contradictions. At first glance, when one sees her flashing smile and batting eye lashes, it’s easy to assume she is all sugar and spice and everything nice.
But then, when you watch her in the ring, and you witness how remorseless she can be in subjecting her opponents to the most brutal viciousness, you revise your opinion to conclude that hers is an evil heart.
And yet, while she expresses no regrets over the brutal tactics she so gleefully employs (such as in her recent PGWA debut at the ‘A Call to Arms’ live event, where she beat DeBella), she clearly has respect for her opponents, and appreciation for the fans.
Mary Kelly is tough yet feminine, sour yet sweet... she is a bundle of contradictory things which all add up to one very exciting young wrestler!

LADYSPORTS: Welcome to LadySports, Mary! Tell us, when did you first become interested in pro wrestling?
MARY KELLY: The typical, watched it my whole life. Wanted to actually do it when I was around 16 and started going to some of the local indy shows where I lived. I begged my trainer for two years to train me before he did.

LS: And when did you first enter the sport?
MK: Started training in 2004. Had my first match December of 2005. From there I was in and out for the next four years because of college and collegiate soccer. Coach didn't like me wrestling during the season. Ha ha!

LS: Who have been your biggest ongoing inspirations to be a wrestler?
MK: My trainer, Mike Promo, and my family in Fusion Tradition Wrestling.

LS: What is Mary Kelly like in the ring, personality-wise?
MK: In the ring it is all business. I am there to wrestle and win!

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
MK: Typical day of training would start out with our normal warm-up: Hindu squats, neck bridges from various angles, crossover drills, and stretching. Then we'll roll around for a little bit and work on certain submissions or moves that we want to go over that day.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
MK: Unfortunately, yes... I broke my back a year and a half ago.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
MK: People would say it is more ‘Strong Style’ because of my hard kicks and suplexes.

LS: What moves are you best known for?
MK: My kicks, thanks to many years of soccer, and suplexes.

LS: Who has been your toughest opponent?
MK: My toughest opponent would have to be Logan Shane. Can't kill the kid no matter what, but he always brings the best out of me.

LS: And who have been your biggest allies?
MK: Anyone in FTW.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
MK: The win after my father passed away. It was an emotional night all around for me.

LS: What was your worst loss?
MK: You can always learn from a loss, so it’s never bad.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
MK: I'll face anyone. There are many women that I haven't faced yet who I would love to get in the ring with one day.

LS: And if you had to retire tomorrow and could have only one more match, who would you most like to wrestle?
MK: Logan Shane, because I know it would be an entertaining match.

LS: What is your favorite style of match?
MK: Singles.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
MK: How women are seen in this sport. Women have to work twice as hard for half the respect.

LS: Where do you see yourself in five years?
MK: Raising my family, teaching, and still wrestling.

LS: Any regrets?
MK: Breaking my back!

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
MK: Probably go insane. Ha ha!

LS: What is your personal motto?
MK: No matter what, you've got to keep going!

LS: And lastly, what's the one thing about you the fans would be most surprised to learn?
MK: I am currently expecting my first child, so unfortunately I will be out of the ring for a bit, but I will be back and better then ever!

LS: Congratulations on your pregnancy, and thanks for speaking with us, Mary. Anything else you'd like to add?
MK: Thank you for your time and interest in me. And thank you fans for following me. You guys mean a lot to me!
