KISSEY KISSEY, BANG BANG

Texas Twister tears up the Squared Circle!

"I'm a good old Southern country girl. I am ever so polite and cordial and I don't like cussing... but feisty and tough when provoked. I love taking on my opponents. I tell them, 'Stop the smack talk...just show me what you've got. Let's wrestle!"

So says Kissey Dyer, who hails just down the road (as the crow flies) from Dallas, in Mabank, a small town of just about 2,000 or so folks. There must be something about those small Texas towns, though... they keep giving the sport the likes of Fritz Von Erich and Dick Murdoch. One thing's for sure, though... Kissey is a darned sight prettier than those guys!

She was first inspired to be a wrestler while still a high school student, when she started dating a guy who was training. She became very interested in the sport, but he was dismissive of a 'girl' being able to wrestle... although he was generous enough to allow her to valet for him. Her newfound interest in wrestling outlasted him in Kissey's life. "He said I couldn't, so when we broke up... well, I did. I really fell in love with wrestling."

Thus inspired, the blonde sought out a local wrestler named Cody Knight, who agreed to train her. She certainly had all of the athletic tools, having been a competitive rodeo rider since she was 7 years of age. Just as importantly, she brought a real talent for showmanship. "I have always loved entertaining an audience. When I was 10, I started up my own equestrian drill team, and we've performed all over Texas."

Ask about her style and she replies, "I would say 'flyer' comes to mind. Quick and agile. I love those moves, and the audience seems to like seeing me do them. My goal is to make my style strong and powerful, but also sexy and entertaining."

She graduated from training in the summer of 2011 and has been working steadily throughout Texas and other states ever since. Of course, any serious professional will tell you that a wrestler never stops learning, and that's certainly true of this Texas teen, who spends a good deal of time in the gym. "I run, do aerobics, and so forth. But most importantly, I work out my arms."

Ring life hasn't always been as fully rewarding as she may have hoped, however. One match in particular still rankles her. Without naming names... she's polite, remember... Kissey recalls an opponent she faced one night: "She wasn't trained properly. A backyarder, if you will. She was very nice, but she just didn't know a lot of what she was trying to do. We weathered through it, though." A pro will also tell you that there's nothing more dangerous in the sport than an ill-trained opponent, and Dyer can doubtless count herself lucky she emerged from that match without any serious injuries.

She's made some solid allies in the sport, such as fellow wrestlers Athena Reese, Gary Jackson, Jason Bruce, and SWWA promoter David Wood. But its been her mother... "My Momager," she proudly says... who is by far her greatest fan and booster, supporting Kissey's dreams of ring stardom from the very start.

It's her mom who reminds her to take her responsibilities seriously, something a 19 year old who's in the midst of a whirlwind of growing success might not always remember. In particular, Kissey solemnly understands her position as a role model. "I love when young girls tell me how they want to be like me. I have to always remember that I can help shape their lives. I want them to know that you can do all things. I am a believer in Jesus Christ. I am not perfect, I am not better than anyone else, but I will let you know I am not less than anyone else, either. Young girls and women can do anything they set their minds to doing."

Obviously, this is a young woman with a bedrock base of support and well-earned faith in her abilities. Not surprisingly, she's looking toward the future. "My goals include wrestling both Misty James and Beth Phoenix." Adding a few straps of leather and gold to her collection are doubtless on this cowgirl's To Do List as well.

But she'd also like to help make a more lasting impact on the sport she has come to love. "I believe we do have the power to improve wrestling. I believe it should have more class and less trash. Some shows... not all, of course... have stuff that is unnecessary. I want the kiddos to look up to us... and the girls more so."

She continues, "I don't like when female wrestlers make statements like, 'I'm the baddest bitch in Texas'... or any other state, for that matter. I am strong, sexy and I still hold my honor as a Woman, not a bitch. I wouldn't like my daughter to say, 'Hey Mom, someday I want to be the baddest bitch!' No, someday when I have a daughter or son, I want them to say, 'Mom, I want to be a wrestler that is strong, powerful and respectfully classy.'"

That's just me, of course... I know trash has it's place too." she adds with an impish laugh.

When all is said and done, does she have any regrets? "Naw, not so far... I'm only 19, after all." Another laugh, followed by the recitation of her personal motto: "Live, laugh and LOVE!"

And it's to the pleasure of the fans that this young phenom is doing all three in ring, and undoubtedly will be for a good many years to come.
