LADYSPORTS: Josianne, welcome to LadySports Online! When did you first get
into the sport of wrestling?
JOSIANNE: I started to do some grappling and jiu jitsu 4 years ago. I also
took some boxing lessons! I really enjoyed it. A wrestling promotion in
Ontario asked me if I wanted to do a show with them in 2006 and they would
train me. Of course I said yes! But I was a little too shy to do pro
wrestling. I was always blushing and I couldn't speak English at all at the
time! We worked on that a lot and I did one pro wrestling match that year. I
wasn't trained enough, but it went well... and I loved it!
LS: And who trained you?
J: Ron Hutchison trained me 2 weeks before the show (which is not enough at
all ... I learned that pretty quick!). When I came back to
Montreal, it took a year and decided I really needed to wrestle again
because it helped me to be a little less shy and helped me to interact with
people, something I wasn't really able to do before.
So I went to a wrestling school in Shawinigan, Quebec (90 miles from Montreal)
and I got trained by Claude "King Hammer" Bordeleau. Once again, I didn't
finish my training... I got in 7 practices before they threw me in the ring
everywhere around the province of Quebec!
I was traveling everywhere but still didn't really know how to fall
correctly or how to reverse the holds to take the advantage. I was the
sweet little girl people liked to beat up! I got squashed several times! It
was bad!
Not so long ago, a friend of mine decided I need to get train because I started
to travel everywhere without even having the right
training. He told me how important it was and I didn't really mind. Before
he started to train me, two major accidents happened to me in the ring and I
realized he was right, I needed to learn how to fall. Mark Jaguar, a
portuguese wrestler from Montreal is now training me. I still really need to
train, so I'll start to travel to different wrestling schools around the US
to learn different techniques, I really can't wait!
LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
J: I can't really say I always wanted to be a wrestler because it would not
be true. I always wanted to perform in a men's world. I mean, I wanted to
become a major league baseball player…or a football player, but I soon
realized I could never do that. I didn't chose the wrestling business, I
really can say that the wrestling business chose me! Some promoters asked me
if I was interested to do a show, I never thought of wrestling before. But
when I started, I was amazed to see all the gorgeous women in the industry.
I started to study their matches!
LS: What other sports and forms of fighting do you have an interest in?
J: I love all sports I must admit!!! I love baseball, softball, volleyball,
football, boxing, submission wrestling, etc. I just love to feel challenged.
I love to feel the competition, and do my best to win, and even when I lose,
I know I gave the best of me! When I play sport, I just forget everything
around me! The best example is, when I play softball, I'm the pitcher, and
as soon as I start to do my motion, everything around me become blurry. I
focus so hard and I'm so concentrated on the pitch! Well, it is also like
that when I wrestle!
LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality and
strengths?
J: It's always hard to describe ourselves. I'm a very shy, very quiet person,
but when I'm in the ring, I let myself becoming another person. Well, it's
still me, but I for I push my real personnality to its limit. It is great to
feel invulnerable, because I know the real me is very sensitive. I'm very
positive though and very optimistic! When I started in the business I was
the opposite. I felt guilty about everything, felt bad about everything and
felt like I didn't deserve to be here. But after a year I realized that when
you work hard, you deserve what you gain.
LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in
your workout?
J: WOW! I wish I could answer this question and I swear one day I'll be able
to do it! The thing is, I'm traveling 2 or 3 weeks a month, so it's very
hard to train and eat correctly.
LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
J: I'm still a begginer in so many ways! I'm a new wrestler but I tend to go towards
highflying and technical wrestling.
LS: Did you base your ring style or even your persona on any one particular
wrestler?
J: There are some wrestlers in Montreal that I truly admire, like Kacey
Diamond, Mark Jaguar, Markos Estrada and King Hammer. I like their styles in the
ring, how they wrestle and the way they look. In the United States, I truly
admire Daizee Haze, Sumie Sakai and of course, from Ontario, Gail Kim.
LS: What specific signature moves are you best known for?
J: When I'm quick enough I'm going for the baseball slide followed by a back
cracker, or a missile drop kick!
LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
J: OH YES! My tale bone (coccyx) is broken and it never recovered! It
happened a year ago, I was wrestling against Sweet Cherrie and at that time,
I was cheating a little bit because she was so much better than I was! I
choked her on the second rope and I did a sit down neckbreaker (on the apron)
but I didn't fall right! It broke and she brought me back in the ring and
pinned me!
Another time, it was against Sweet Cherrie again, in Ontario. We had just
started the match and I climbed onto the second turnbucckle to taunt the
crowd and she pulled my hair back and I took a bump in the middle of the ring.
We were the semi final and the match before us was a heavyweight match.
The plywood under the canvas had moved and my lower back hit a 2 x 4.
I was paralyzed for 2 days! I walked with a cane for 2 weeks but after a
month I was back in the ring...
LS: Since you've begun have you ever had a "Why am I still doing this"
moment?
J: Everyday! But everyday I remember that Im mainly doing that for the fans,
and also, everytime I step in the ring, I don't have t wonder anymore why
I'm still doing this. The feeling, the adrenaline and everything makes you
understand that there is no such feeling outside. I love to wrestle, and to
be quite honnest this is a very weird and sick business bu I'm just in love
with it. You have to watch the the movie ‘'The Wrestler'' to undertsand how
we feel when we are out there. We are unbrealable, we have people behind us
chearing for us, hating or loving us, but at least caring. When we are
outside the ring, the real life hits us, and it hits really hard. I could
write for hours about it, I might do it one day! In fact I should, and if I
do I'll let you guys read it first!
LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
J: Vanessa Kraven, she's something like 6'0 200 pounds! Very skilled! Very
mean! There is also Kacey Diamond because she is a real tough cookie! You
can't end up a match without pain and a bloody chest! There is also Sweet
Cherrie, because I wrestled her so many times that she knows everything about
me!
LS: What has been your most memorable win?
J: Honestly, I don't have a specific one, for now. In fact, in all my
matches I learn so much and I so need to learn right now. I must say that my
losses are my biggest wins because I learn so much from them. I'm a
sponge for knowledge... everything that happens to me,
even if it's really bad, a humiliating loss or an injury, well, I try to see
the positive in it, learn from it and absorb everything I can!
LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring but
haven't yet?
J: Gail Kim, Tracy Taylor, Maryse Ouellet (SHE IS SO HOT! Did you see her in
WWE!?) nd I'd really like to chop JaimeD down to size!
LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
J: Something more technical I would say. There are not a lot of girls that
are trained that way. I'd love to learn more technical wrestling!
LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a
wrestler?
J: Well, as you might know I'm from Canada and at the border they always
ask me what I'm doing! They NEVER believe me ... I have to show them pictures
and I've even had to show them my website! They all say that I
look too sweet and shy to be rough and mean! Also, it scares guys I think.
Not the wrestlers but other guys I meet!
LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
J: The fans! They are so loyal! Even if sometimes you have to bend the rules to win
depending who you are fighting, they are usually behind me and cheering. I
have a very loyal fan base. It's funny because even if I have to do an
occaisional illegal manoeuver, sometimes they ask me why and make me promise I
won't do it again instead of turning their backs on me!
Mainly, this sport became a passion for me and every passion, when you
decide to live it, you forget your problems, you think about it all the
time, you even dream about it. Wrestling became my passion the day I steped
in the ring for the first time. I just hope I won't lose all this passion,
or at least if this sad day happen, I hope I'll be able to replace it by
something as intense as wrestling!
LS: What are your fans like?
J: Like I said, they are always there! They are always behind me. Even if I
do smethi g they don't undertsand, they won't judge me. The real fans are
staying near you and they help you out a lot and they are always there when
you need them. In Ontario they are very supportive and I must say the ones
in Nashville surprised me a lot! I was mean to them and I still feel a very
strong connection with them! In Montreal, they are my first fans and I will
never forget them and I'll be back, but right now, Im taking a break for the
wrestling business in Montreal. When I'll come back, I'll be b etter and
stronger. I started off on the wrong foot in Montreal and I still need to
prove myself. This day will come!
LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
J: Stop all the competition between the girls. It's unnecessary and it's
bringing the sport down. Some of us chose the sexy style some others chose
the hardcore style, some others chose a technical style, etc. But we all have
our style and that's what makes it geat, because we are all different and
there is room for everybody. Sexy, tough, big, skinny, we can all do it.
Diversity is the key for success of every wrestling promotion.
Judgment is what makes this business going down too. What Im wearing is not
reflecting who I really am. Wrestlers and promoters should understand that
before everybody else.
LS: Where have you wrestled and what titles if any have you held?
J: Oh my! ... In Quebec there are so many wrestling promotions! ICW, FCL,
FLQ, NCW, SWF, SWR, CCWM, SUNNY, L&L, NWC, PWA, PWE, GEW, ALF, WEW, PCW,
CPW-UWA, St-Lin, St-Jérome, CWA, WAW, Supershows, CWC, and others I can't
even remember!
And of course I've been honoured to have appeared for the PGWA!
Never had the chance to wrestle for a belt in my short career!
LS: What do you say to those who don't feel there's a place for women in the
sport other than as a novelty?
J: I'll just say : we are in 2009 if you don't like it, switch channel when
it's a ladies match. I never believed in changing people's mind. Usually
people who are saying that just want to piss you off or they don't even want
to hear you argue even if you are very convincing and have the good
arguments. So I don't lose my time with that anymore! If you don't like it,
don't watch it!
LS: If you could have only one more final match, who would you most want to
have as your opponent and why?
J: Sweet Cherrie. I had great matches with her, very challenging. I always
feel like I learn so much with her. Even if we destroy each other all the
time, I really want to win, and so does she! I push my limits against her. I
know what she'll do and she knows what I'll do so we have to play our cards
diferently.
LS: Any regrets?
J: I should have train properly before going into the ring. A lot of people
would stay their regret is that they would have want to start earlier but nt
me. I was not mature enough to stay alive in that business. Im happy I did
it so late!
LS: What do you suppose you would be doing if you couldn't be in wrestling?
J: I studied psychology and I was about to start another bachelor degree
in criminology. I would probably do something related to crime.
LS: You've challenged Tracy Taylor for the PGWA belt, and your match is
scheduled for February 6 in Nashville. How do you think you'll do against
the Champ?
J: I'll do my best this is the only thing I can say. I think I was a little
too confident when I chalenged her last month but I really wanted to have my
first shot for a belt against her and also, for the PGWA belt. She wrestled
everywhere, she is so more experienced then me, but she doesn't know me at
all. I saw her wrestle acouple of times and I know her a little bit more
than she knows me, it might be an advantage! I have more than one As up my
sleeve! After the match is all set and done, you'll be looking at the new
PGWA champion!!!
LS: What is your personal motto?
J: 'All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty
recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the
dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with
open eyes, to make it possible.'
- T.E.Lawrence 'The seven pillars of wisdom'
OR : Say what you mean, Mean what you say!
OR : "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent".
LS: What would make you most happy in life?
J: The only thing I want is when I'll die, I want to look behind and be able
to say : WHAT A RIDE! Seriously, I want to live my life 110%. I want to
love, be loved, be respected, have fun, take care of people around me, stay
close to my family and friends. I want to see the people around me happy and
that will make me happy! I want to travel and cuddle with my cats as often
as I can!
LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
J: Thank you for this interview! You probably realize you shouldn't have
give me the chance to answer an interview because you can't stop me! It's
not even my language and I can't stop talking/ writing! If you have more
questions, don't hesitate! Maybe in a year or two, you'll be able to take
the few interviews I did and create a book with it!
LS: Josianne, thanks for taking the time to speak with us, and good luck
against Tracy on the 6th.
J: I'll be fine! Like I said, even if I lose, it will be one of my biggest
wins!!! But, I won't lose!
