LADYSPORTS SPOTLIGHT: FIONA FRASER

Q & A: FIONA FRASER

"You're not leaving that ring unless I let you!"

Unlike so many others in the sport, Fiona Fraser did not grow up as a fan of wrestling.
Indeed, she barely gave it a thought at all…until the day, not all that long ago, when
she caught it on television. And from that moment on, wrestling became one of the most
important things in young Fiona's life!

And it's clearly no passing fancy, as she has dedicated herself to learning as much
about the sport as she possibly can…and as she's proving in the ring, she more than
has the skills to be a genuine star!

LADYSPORTS: Welcome to LadySports, Fiona. When did you first get into the sport?
FIONA FRASER: I only really became interested in wrestling two years ago…I caught a taping on TV and was instantly hooked. I Googled "Scottish Wrestling Schools" and took it from there, I started training three weeks later. I never watched wrestling as a child and didn't really have any awareness of it before then.

LS: Who trained you?
FF: Damian O'Connor and Mikey Whiplash are the full time trainers at the Source Wrestling School that I attend. I've also attended seminars by Johnny Kidd and Jetta.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
FF: The first wrestler I was aware of was Edge…I thought his intensity was incredible. Natalya is my idol, she has incredible skill and looks amazing. I just thought it looked fun and wanted to give it a try.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
FF: I'm not a particularly sporty person outside of wrestling. I enjoy watching Formula One, and the major golf tournaments.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
FF: I'm incredibly driven; I like to be the best at everything I do, and I'm not happy until I am. I'm very level-headed, and I try to see the best in people for the most part. I want to learn everything yesterday and continually want to improve.

LS: What is your most marked characteristic as a wrestler?
FF: I pick a body part and I go to work. You're not leaving that ring unless I let you.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
FF: I don't enjoy cardio, running is particularly unpleasant for me. I love lifting weights and I love the sense of achievement I get from lifting a heavier weight than I was able to before.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
FF: American technical. I'd like to bring in more of a British element in the future.

LS: What moves are you best known for?
FF: I'm best known for my love of joint manipulation…I love a good arm bar! The most common ones that I use include the Fujiwara arm bar and the cross arm-breaker.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
FF: Thankfully no!

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
FF: Viper and Bete Noire. Both are incredibly hard hitting ladies who take no prisoners. You're always sore the day after a match with them!

LS: Who are your allies?
FF: I don't have any. I'm a competitor and I want to be the best: I don't want anyone hampering that.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
FF: I defeated Nikki Storm via roll up in our last match for the Scottish Wrestling Alliance . It was a massive victory for me!

LS: What was your worst loss?
FF: I was pinned by Erin Angel after a top rope splash for EVE's WrestleFever show. How embarrassing!

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
FF: I have a long list of wrestlers I'd love to work with: Pippa L'Vinn as I'm sure I'd learn a great deal from her, Lisa Fury because she's a great character. I want to wrestle anyone and everyone. I have so much I can learn!

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
FF: A technical singles match. I don't like big falls or dangerous moves. You don't need to do things like that to show off your skill!

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
FF: Confusion, and fascination!

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
FF: It has given me so much, so much more than I ever thought it could. I have grown as a person because of my involvement.

LS: What are your fans like?
FF: Respectful.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
FF: I don't think I've been involved for long enough to be able to comment.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
FF: I've mostly wrestled in Scotland, although I have traveled down to Manchester to the Wrestling Factory, as well as Sudbury for Pro Wrestling:EVE.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
FF: It's a tie between wrestling on EVE's WrestleFever iPPV show (I'm the quickest female wrestler to go from debut to the EVE roster, I'm told.) and wrestling Nikki Storm in Motherwell for SWA. It was the first time I was able to let go and truly enjoy a match.

LS: Any regrets?
FF: Perhaps that I didn't start wrestling sooner?

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
FF: I've a keen interest in photography, so I'd probably be out and about with my camera.

LS: What is your personal motto?
FF: "Think big and don't listen to people who tell you it can't be done. Life's too short to think small.” - Alf Dunbar.

LS: And what would make you most happy in life?
FF: Wrestling, spending time with friends, an interesting book to read and a nice glass of wine! That always helps!
