Q & A: FAITH DIVA LAHAINE

You Gotta Have a Little Faith

by S. Mata

On television, Faith Lehaine was the daring, naughty and yes, sometimes evil counterpart to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the ring, Faith Diva Lehaine is certainly daring, rather naughty, and has also proven, despite her tremendous skills, to be more than willing to tread a darker path to achieve her ends.
Now, LadySports Online is proud to present this transplanted American now tearing up British rings to fans worldwide. She’s clearly five by five...

THE STATS:

Ring Name: Faith Diva Lehaine

Hometown: Wilmington, North Carolina, currently residing in the UK

LADYSPORTS: Welcome, Faith. When did you first get into the sport?
FAITH DIVA LEHAINE: 2001 was when I first started training, but wrestling had been in my family for generations. My mother's uncle rented rings to local promotions and my brothers were huge wrestling fans, so I was raised to love the sport.

LS: Who trained you?
FDH: I was trained at UCW's New Generation Gym, but still continue to train at various gyms, as there is always some way to better yourself.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
FDH: I don't really remember. As I said, I've always had a passion for the sport. I do remember when the thought first crossed my mind: I had been reading Powerslam magazine and I had seen a seminar advertised in the back and I knew I wanted to attend. So I did. That's when I realised I could use my performing skills and gymnastics all at the same time.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
FDH: Gymnastics and dance... not so much of a sport, I know, but it keeps me fit and I have so much fun showing off.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality and strengths?
FDH: I'm a southern belle with an innocent face, but the smile hides the truth: what really lies beneath is a bad ass bitch who will do whatever it takes to get what I want. Not to mention, making sure I look damned good whilst doing it.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
FDH: Taking my performing background into consideration, a lot of my workouts are based around musicals, mainly so I have fun doing them which is probably the most important part. If you’re not having fun, what is the point? So I keep things light and fun. So “Much Better” followed by “Whipped Into Shape” from Legally Blonde The Musical is a favourite, followed by “Bohemian Rhapsody” from We Will Rock You. It's a lot of dancerobics, but sometimes I'll just have a set routine I want to do. Stretching is the other really important thing for me, as I like to keep flexible, so a lot of stretches.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
FDH: A risk-taking brawler who does what it takes to win.

LS: Did you base your ring style or even your persona on any one particular wrestler?
FDH: I'm me, and that's all there is to it. A lot of people contributed to making me into what I am, but everything has my twist on it.

LS: What specific signature moves are you best known for?
FDH: The Benediction... an inverted drop bulldog into split-legged pin, a modified surfboard, and The Corner Combo (stomp, choke, bronco buster, baseball slide).

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
FDH: I broke my arm twice in two months and cracked my head open, not to mention the numerous concussions.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
FDH: MDB. Up until recently, a year into my run at BAWA, I didn't have a win over her, but now the tables have turned and I'm on a streak.

LS: Who are your allies?
FDH: Triggerman & Cash Calloway, collectively known as "The Body Fascists"...a group of which I am the first and ONLY female member. Also, Pure Lee Class, Alex Steele and Pox.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
FDH: My biggest win had to be the first-ever UK Bra & Panties match against Lamia for UCW. I won, but I was still stripped down when I was celebrating. It was a solidly technical match with all the fun of a brawl.

LS: What was your worst loss?
FDH: I can't single one out as every loss is bad in my book, but if I had to choose one, has to be my debut match in BAWA against Million Dollar Baby. I got too cocky. Need I say more?

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
FDH: Gideon, but only because I want to settle the score once and for all and this May...it's gonna be happening.

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
FDH: I've always had fun doing bra & panties matches, but I love a good solid intergender tag. That's when I can really shine, showing that a women can face a man, and still win.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
FDH: First off, it's like 'Yea, right' with my size... I get it so often, but once they get used to the idea, they are pretty amazed.

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
FDH: The attention. I have to be the centre of attention, and of course, the satisfaction of winning.

LS: What are your fans like?
FDH: My fans are the best, but I guess everyone says that, don't they? The younger ones are adorable, I love them. The older ones, who understand me a little bit more, aren't so cute. But they know their place: down on their knees worshiping at my feet, kissing the ground I work on.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
FDH: Equality. I've faced guys and won, but it's unheard of. But I can do it and I know plenty of others that could, given the chance, but they're not. And I want them to have the chance.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
FDH: PWA, UCW, 4FW, CSF, BAWA, PWA North. I've held the UCW Women's Championship three times and the UCW hardcore title once.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
FDH: More power to us. As I stated previously, and in numerous interviews, there is no difference between a female wrestler and a cruiserweight, except maybe ten pounds and a few inches. Cruiserweights can face who they want, so why can't we?

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the ring?
FDH: The first and... touch wood... the only time I've ever been busted open in the ring. Rampage, threw me over the top rope. I managed the break the fall so it didn't hurt too much, but as I got up, I slipped and cracked the back of my head on the ring. Being a blonde at the time, the blood was instantly noticeable to everyone... except me, as it was on the back of my head. I tried to get back in the ring, and when the ref stopped me, I pretty much fainted.

LS: Any regrets?
FDH: Not one.

LS: What do you suppose you would be doing if you couldn't be in wrestling?
FDH: I guess I'd be making movies, or recording albums.

LS: What is your personal motto?
FDH: Sometimes you have to be a high-riding bitch to survive. Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hang onto. Rule Number Seven says Don't Touch The Women, But They Can Grab Whatever They Want To.

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
FDH: A nice, long successful career and a family.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
FDH: Share the love, keep the peace and most of all, have Faith. Come hit me up on MySpace, http://www.myspace.com/lovefaithxxx

LS: Thanks for making the time to speak with us!
FDH: No problem. Anything for the adoring fans.
