Q & A:  DONNA

by Shiai Mata

CALL HER DELECTABLE... AND SHE LIKES TO BE NAUGHTY!

One of the breakout stars of Pippa L'Vinn's recent "March Madness" live event was a 17 year old newcomer named Delectable Donna. LadySports recently sat down with Donna for a Q&A, and is proud to now introduce this British rookie to fans worldwide!

Q: Hello, Donna. To begin with, why don't you share your basic statistics with the fans?
A: Hello. Well, for the Americans out there, I stand 5'6", and I guess I weigh 112 lbs...I think that's what it translates into. My eyes are hazel, my hair is dark brown, and I was born on the 8th of June.

Q: When did you start wrestling?
A: I began training in August 2004 at the FWA: Manchester academy. In October of the same year, I began valeting for wrestlers. I continued to train until November 2005, when I had my debut match in an inter-gender tag match, in which myself and a wrestler called Ashley Reed faced Skye and Paul Ashe.

Q: What and/or who influenced you most to wrestle?
A: I've had lots of different people influence me. Originally I began watching WWE...or WWF, as it was then known...and it was The Rock who I loved and idolized. Later though I began to watch Japanese wrestling and it inspired me so much. I began to be a huge fan for wrestlers like Naomichi Marufuji, KENTA, Manami Toyota, Akira Hokuto, Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa. These people helped me discover a completely new style of wrestling which I fell in love with and began to study intensively.

Q: Describe a typical day of wrestling training for you. What is most important, and what are the things you train on most?
A: Usually I train with guys, so a typical day of training usually involves me getting thrown around like a rag doll! I don't mind at all though...it makes me a lot tougher. I like working on my technical wrestling, figuring out new reversals, working on holds, etc. At the moment my main focus is working on the actual fitness aspect of wrestling. In order to be able to survive in a Japanese dojo, you have to be almost robot-esque. I want to improve my stamina and general fitness. This will also help me in the ring as I'm unlikely to tire out easily.

Q: What other sports or hobbies to you have interest in?
A: I'm not really a big sports person. I like watching soccer or MMA. I love languages. That's my main hobby. Currently I am studying Japanese. I love learning different languages so when I visit countries I can speak a little with the local people.

Q: What are your favorite foods, music, clothes, cars etc.?
A: I'm a self-confessed junk food addict. Pizza, burgers, chocolate, and pies...I love it all! I'm just lucky in that I have a pretty high metabolism, so I can work it off. I have a very wide range of music taste. I like rap, pop, dance, hip hop, rock and much more. I do have a soft spot for all things cheesy though. If it's really bad music, it's guaranteed that I probably love it! I have no shame!

Q: Who and what are your fans like?
A: I had a fan once, so I had a restraining order put on him!

Q: What holds, pins and moves are you best known for doing?
A: In all honesty I'm best known for bending the rules to my advantage, but at the end of the day you have to do what you have to do! I don't really know what my best pins, holds and moves are. One of my favorite moves is a "Sliced Bread Number 2," which is quite a high flying move. Another move I'm particularly fond of is where I get my opponent into a key-lock, and then sweep there legs into a DDT-like maneuver and roll through into a pin. It doesn't have a name yet, though.

Q: What was the worst you have ever been hurt in training or during a match?
A: I'm very blessed in that I haven't ever been seriously hurt in training. Usually it is just a few bruises. My worst injury was when I pulled my back at training. That was very painful and still hurts slightly to this day.

Q: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
A: I have only had two matches in front of a crowd. One at IPW: UK and one for PPLV promotions. I haven't wrestled enough matches to win a title yet, but watch this space!

Q: What comments or reactions do you get from others about being a wrestler?
A: Most people think it's really cool and unusual. As I said earlier, it makes a great ice-breaker. People can never believe it. They all have this preconceived image of female wrestlers being these big butch women who seemingly suffer from severe gender confusion...which we all is know is far from the truth! Then they meet little old me, who's small and girly, and they can't believe it.

Q: In your opinion, what are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
A: Obviously I'm a big fan of women wrestlers. I think women add just as much to a show as then men do. However I'm not a fan of women being thrown into wrestling matches just because they have big boobs and a pretty face. I feel that makes a mockery of women's wrestling, and it annoys me a lot.

Q: What would you do to make the sport better?
A: I would like women to be seen as wrestlers rather than eye candy. A lot of shows that you go to, the crowd are more interested in seeing catfights and 'puppies' as opposed to good solid womens matches. This is a shame, as there are many talented women out there who end up resorting to becoming T & A in order to get bookings.

Q: What is your biggest regret?
A: I don't have any regrets. I have made one or two mistakes, but I don't regret them as I learnt from them and it made me a better person.

Q: What would make you most happy in life?
A: As clich d as it sounds, the thing that would make me the most happy in life would be to be a big success in wrestling. It's all I've wanted since being a child, and there is nothing that could make me happier.

Q: What is your most marked characteristic?
A: I think my most marked characteristic has to be my mouth. I'm known for being quite loud and sharp-tongued. Probably not the best thing to be known for, but it could be worse!

Q: What is your personal motto?
A: It's not naughty unless you get caught.

Q: What is your most memorable moment?
A: I have so many, my first FWA show would probably be it. I was so nervous, but as soon as me and the Manchester Massive (the team I was valeting) got out there, the crowd was so responsive. It was amazing. They were very vulgar, the crowd, though...shouting all kinds of obscenities at me!

Q: How has wrestling changed your life? What is so special about this sport to you?
A: I don't really know the answers to either of these questions. I guess wrestling has given me the best breaking-the-ice phrase ever. "I'm a wrestler you know," never fails to strike up a conversation! The sport is very special to me, but I don't know why. It's one of those things I've never questioned.

Q: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
A: Probably sitting at home all day wishing I could be in wrestling! Nah, in all seriousness I'd probably be teaching English to foreign students. That's what I'm studying right now, just in case wrestling doesn't work out.

Q: How would you describe yourself...attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, strength?
A: I'd like to think I have quite a positive attitude and bubbly personality. I try to be nice to everyone and make everybody feel happy and comfortable. I think sometimes I can get a little too hyper though, and people have to fight the urge to gag me and lock me in a cupboard!

Q: Donna, thank you for taking the time to speak with us, and good luck to you!
A: Thank you.
