Q & A DeBELLA

"I love to just totally dominate"

For a lot of women, involvement in wrestling begins and ends with serving as a manager or valet, with no thought of actually stepping between the ropes to compete. But for DeBella, the siren call of combat proved too strong, and she went from standing at ringside cheering on her man to actually getting into the ring and kicking butts herself! And now LadySports Online is proud to help introduce this newcomer to fans worldwide.

LADYSPORTS: Welcome, DeBella! When did you first get into the sport?
DeBELLA: I first got into it about four years ago as a manager/valet. I did that off and on for about six months. Then in October of 2009 I realized I wanted to get back in and actually wrestle instead of just manage, so that's when I started training.

LS: Who trained you?
DeB: Ray Leigh.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
DeB: I wanted to do something that I loved and could inspire people. And I enjoy beating up my opponents.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
DeB: I like to watch football and cheerleading…weird combo, I know.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths?
DeB: I'm very spunky. I can be a very sweet girl, but once you cross me I become a total bitch. I don't like people who try to bullshit me. I try my hardest to always speak my mind, and I'm very loyal to anyone who is loyal to me.

LS: What is your most marked characteristic as a wrestler?
DeB: I can actually WRESTLE.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
DeB: I work at a gym, so I always try to get at least thirty minutes of cardio, five times a week, along with weight training and core work. When I'm at the dojo I practice anything from mat wrestling to high flying, or power moves.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
DeB: I just try to win. I love to fly and also enjoy basic mat wrestling. I like to catch my opponents in a hold that they can't get out of. When I'm in the ring with someone my size, I love to get in there and toss them around, just totally dominate them.

LS: What moves are you best known for?
DeB: The Swinging Neckbreaker, and the Headscissors.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
DeB: Besides the normal bumps and bruises, no.

LS: Who has been your toughest opponent?
DeB: Tasha Simone.

LS: Who are your allies?
DeB: I have none.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
DeB: Winning the MCW Women's title belt.

LS: What was your worst loss?
DeB: All loses are bad.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
DeB: There are a few, but if I had to pick a top one, I'd say Molly Holly.

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
DeB: I like tag matches…they can get real interesting. I would love to do a cage match and a ladder match some day.

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
DeB: Some people laugh, some people tell me how cool it is.

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
DeB: I love to show people how tough girls are and how physical we can be...while still looking good.

LS: What are your fans like?
DeB: Wild and crazy, just the way I like it.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
DeB: I'd want to take the drama out of things and just let wrestlers wrestle.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
DeB: Although I've only been wrestling six months, I have already had the opportunities to work in Kentucky , Indiana , Tennessee , Arkansas , and soon to be Mississippi . I've been the MCW Women's Champ and Wrestler of the Week.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
DeB: I don't think wrestling is for all women. I think a lot of girls try to get by on just their looks instead of wrestling ability. I think this sport needs more girls who can actually wrestle and respect the business.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
DeB: Probably my first match. The feeling of getting in the ring in front of a crowd for the first time is unbelievable.

LS: Any regrets?
DeB: None.

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
DeB: I'd probably be a fitness instructor and perhaps a fitness model

LS: What is your personal motto?
DeB: Never let anybody tell you that you can't be whatever it is you want to be.

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
DeB: Working hard to make it to the top of my profession and having my family and friends there to cheer me on every step of the way.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
DeB: I'm very lucky to have had the opportunities already given to me. I hope one day to wrestle overseas. I'd love to make it to TNA one day. I'm looking forward to wrestling some of the top women in the sport.
