Q & A BURGANDI TURNER

"I would have to be involved in the business some way or another, bottom line."

A case in point is Kentucky's Burgandi Turner, who is the epitome of charm... outside of the ring. But get her in the squared circle, and you’ve got a wildcat on your hands!

LADYSPORTS: Welcome to LadySports, Burgandi! Tell us, when did you first get into the sport?
BURGANDI TURNER: I had no idea that indy wrestling existed! Ii moved from Washington County back to Frankfort and meet some people whom I call my friends now, and they actually introduced me to indy wrestling., As soon as I knew it was around, I decided right then and there that I was going to wrestle.

LS: And who trained you?
BT: I am currently training with Felony Foxx, Big Dawg Cujo, Average White Guy Michael Read and the Sinister Human Torch, Zodiak.

LS: Who have been your biggest inspirations to be a wrestler?
BT: I can remember sitting at home when I was little waiting for my mom to turn on wrestling so I could watch Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Undertaker…the list just goes on and on…!

LS: What are you like in the ring, personality-wise?
BT: I have a natural attitude. So I would say that I am very cocky, confident and in-your-face.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
BT: I start stretching my body. Stretching is very important. We warm up with running the ropes, squats, jumping jacks and tumbling drills. We then work on other drills and putting together physiology. We run the ropes, getting your cardio up and keeping it at a steady pace. I do a lot of things in my training sessions, they are different every day… just depends on what needs to be worked on and what I want to learn.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
BT: Aggressive and hard-hitting.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents to date?
BT: Big Momma Nemesis, Trash Cassidy and Lil Naughty.

LS: And who have been your biggest allies?
BT: Zodiak, Kaige Kuttler and Amazing Maria.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
BT: I would have to say that I have a couple, but I think the one that most stands out isn’t really a win; Kaige Kuttler and I put the boots to Average White Guy after he won the match.

LS: And how about your worst loss?
BT: My worst loss would definitely have to be when I lost to Felony Foxx.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
BT: Jessie Belle Smothers.

LS: And if you had to retire tomorrow and could have only one more match, who would you most like to wrestle?
BT: I would want to wrestle Felony Foxx one more time.

LS: What is your favorite style of match? NN: A very aggressive, hard-hitting match...i.e., street fights.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
BT: Yes I have. I have had my knee injured, and my wrist/thumb as well.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
BT: I would definitely want to prove to people that we women have a right to be in this sport. I don’t think that we should have to fight for our spots. I was trained that when I am in the ring, I am one of the guys, and I was trained as one of the guys. I want to be treated as an equal and nothing more or less.

LS: Any other sports you enjoy?
BT: Football, basketball, volleyball, softball, rollerblading, cheerleading and gymnastics.

LS: Any regrets?
BT: The only thing I regret is not getting into the business earlier.

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
BT: I would have to be involved in the business some way or another, bottom line.

LS: Can you tell us what the one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in the sport would be?
BT: SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND LISTEN!!!! RESPECT THE VETS!!!!

LS: What is your personal motto?
BT: Accept nothing but the best.

LS: And lastly, anything else you'd like to add?
BT: If you have a passion and love for something, don’t let someone hold you back. Go for it or have regrets for the rest of your life.

LS: Thanks so much for speaking with us, Burgandi!
BT: Thanks so much for giving me a chance to speak with you.
