Q & A: Bacardi

"In no other way have I had passion for something like I do in this business."

by S. Mata

Go ahead and make all of the requisite alcohol jokes now: She's 100 proof in the ring; She'll leave you punch drunk; She'll uncork a bottle of whup-ass on you. There now, got it out of your system? Good.

While she may share a name with a brand of rum, this Bacardi most definitely does not go down smoothly in action. But although she's a wildcat in the ring, outside she's incredibly charming, as you're about to discover...

LADYSPORTS: Welcome, Bacardi. When did you first get into the sport?
BACARDI: When I was about 16, I first started getting into training.

LS: Who trained you?
B: Started off with Jake Roberts, then moved on to Phil Powers. Also had some training from Sweet Saraya, Pippa L'Vinn and a few others.

LS: What was your biggest influence to become a wrestler?
B: Just the way wrestling was, that was a big enough influence for me to get into it. I loved everything about it from the minute I found it, and thought to myself, I wanna do that.

LS: What other sports do you have an interest in?
B: I watch NFL, but not very often, also like a bit of baseball. To be honest I am not much of a sports girl outside of wrestling.

LS: How would you describe yourself in terms of attitude, personality, likes, dislikes, and strengths? A: I am quite a headstrong girl, who usually does what she wants. I can lose my temper quite easily, which is not a good thing in most cases. I am quite easy to get along with, I try to be nice to everyone. Wrestling is my passion and is something that you will always find me talking about, no matter where I am! I like a random array of things, my likes and dislikes are not easy to list, more of a thing people get to know as they get to know me, really.

LS: What are your favorite foods, music, clothes, cars?
B: My fave food ever is Spaghetti Bolognaise…can't get enough of the stuff. I also like chicken salads, steak and fries. My favorite band of all time is Pearl Jam, followed closely by Alterbridge and Motley Crue. I will wear anything I think looks good, I am not tied down to one style of anything, never have been, never will be.

LS: Describe a typical day of training for you. What is most important in your workout?
B: Most important in my workout is Tae Bo. It keeps me properly fit, a complete workout that is. I recommend everyone try it at least once, its an amazing workout for the whole body that really does work you hard.

LS: How would you best describe your ring style?
B: Honestly, I don't think I can say I have just one ring style…no one really does, everyone has their own style. It's just them and that's all that can ever be said about it. Everyone has their own move set.

LS: Have you ever been injured in the ring?
B: I have had a couple of concussions whilst in the ring, but nothing major has occurred *touch wood*. Here's to hoping I keep all bones, etcetera in the right place.

LS: Who have been your toughest opponents?
B: My toughest ever opponent would be Simone, The Baroness from Germany. She is proper strong and really knows what she is doing. She will bring the fight to you without holding back, and that's what I like in an opponent…someone who will test my strengths and abilities.

LS: Who are your allies?
B: Ant Lacaya, Will Davison, Carnage.

LS: What has been your most memorable win?
B: My most memorable win was at BAWF, Bracknell. I beat a great opponent named Jordan, who was a hard one to beat. The win meant so much to me for a few reasons: It was my first show for this company, and it was their first major show; Jordan was a tough opponent, I had to work hard to beat her; and the best thing of all was my family were there to see me wrestle, and it was the first time they had seen me live, so winning and seeing them so happy made it even more special for me.

LS: Who is the one wrestler you would most like to face in the ring, but haven't yet?
B: There are two great female wrestlers I would love to wrestle, and that is Pippa L'Vinn and Sweet Saraya. Both woman are amazing wrestlers, and it would be an honor to wrestle them.

LS: What type of match do you enjoy the most?
B: I enjoy a good singles match, one that is matched in ability, has proper wrestling skill and a strong psychology. To me, that is always the best match…but then a hardcore match looks good fun, too!

LS: What sort of reactions do you get from people when they learn you are a wrestler?
B: A lot of people mark out and are all, "Wow, that's so cool!" Some people laugh and are not sure whether to believe you are not. I get the people who act somewhat scared of me afterwards, and then there is always that guy who asks, "Mud or Jelly?"

LS: What is so special about this sport to you?
B: The way that those who come to watch us appreciate the show we are putting on for them. They can see what we put ourselves through. In no other way have I had passion for something like I do in this business, its almost indescribable. When people ask me why I wrestle, I can only answer with... "because I love it".

LS: What are your fans like?
B: Awesome. They appreciate what goes on, and they support. That's what is needed of fans.

LS: If you had the power, what one thing would you do to improve the sport?
B: Remove the sexism that still exists within a lot of promotions and a lot of promoters. Women can wrestle just as well as the men and don't need to be hassled just because of the fact they are female. Either that, or get rid of the backstabbing.

LS: Where have you wrestled, and what titles have you held?
B: I am yet to hold a title, but do not find that too important. I have wrestled in many places including Southampton, Northampton, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Chichester, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton, Stoke On Trent and loads others around the country.

LS: What are your thoughts on women participating in the sport?
B: I think fair play on them for wanting to do this, but I do not believe women should be treated any different from the men in this sport. First thing Jake taught me was that women and men don't exist in this sport, we are all equal in taking a beating.

LS: What was your most unforgettable moment in the sport?
B: My first victory. That was a great moment and I truly loved hearing the crowd's reaction when I won.

LS: Any regrets?
B: Not doing more shows, that is all.

LS: What would you do if you couldn't be in wrestling?
B: That's a question I don't think I could answer for the pure fact I cannot see myself doing anything else.

LS: What is your personal motto?
B: Look after those who look after you, f*ck the rest!

LS: What would make you most happy in life?
B: Wrestling a whole lot more, in a whole lot more places. Wrestling makes me happy.

LS: Anything else you'd like to add?
B: I would like to thank you for letting me do this interview, I always appreciate what others do for me, and I always try to show that.
