Wrestling fans had an unbelievable weekend of great wrestling, bad weather,
bad luck and good luck. The PGWA, in association with New Empire Wrestling,
offered fans a championship match between Pippa L'Vinn and Diane Von Hoffman,
and they one of the best matches ever presented by Special Events!
Throughout the weekend, central North Carolina was pelted with hail, heavy
rains, thunderstorms, dangerous winds, and two women who put on one great
wrestling match despite all of the negative events happening in the area.

Lightning hit the building last Saturday evening knocking the power out for
several hours, and raising fears that the card would have to be canceled.
The NEW promoter considered canceling the event, but luckily the power was
restored...but then a new problem developed. The fans started coming to the
small arena in droves as early as 5:00 PM. By the scheduled starting time,
there were so many fans, the building's capacity level was reached! So,
rather than turn fans away, the ring was taken outside in the parking lot,
set up, and the matches went on as scheduled!
As darkness fell, it was realized that there was no way to run electricity to
the parking lot. So, in a display of Southern ingenuity, several cars were
brought up to ringside, so that their headlights could be used to illuminate
the ring! Headlights casting an almost otherworldly illumination, the PGWA
Championship was not going to be denied on this Sunday evening, May 4, 2003.

Many fans stayed in their cars and watched the action in a fine mist-filled
night that seemed to chill fans to the bone in 52 degree weather. Others
just bundled up in the arena chairs and watched the excitement.
The last time Pippa was in the area, fans hated her with a passion, and
tonight was no different. When Von Hoffman made her parking lot entrance,
she knew the fans were there to support the USA. Perhaps they didn't know
both of these girls were best known for their rulebreaking, but they soon
found out. Never have fans seen so much scratching, hair pulling, eye
gouges, nose pulling, kicking, chair slamming, closed fisted punches
wrestling from two championship caliber females like this!

Pippa wins the 2 of 3 falls match, but paid a bitter price with that win.
Almost out cold from the fall she lost, Pippa screamed her submission just
before Diane almost had her out cold.
Special Events promotions, who sanctioned the match considered this to be one
of the Top 10 matches they have ever videotaped. This was such unusual
weather to see any wrestling in...cold, rainy, dark and damp. And of course
the headlights from the cars at ringside made for an eerie atmosphere. This
was a match that was not to be denied!
A tearful and disappointed Diane Von Hoffman expressed her sincere feelings
about not winning the PGWA Title. A championship title has avoided her for
the last 12 years, and she could not hold back her tears in her interviews
following the match.

For Pippa L'Vinn, she will have to take a few weeks to recuperate from the
beating she got from Diane. Diane slammed her with a steel chair, choked her
with that same steel chair and tortured her back as she lost control after
the loss. Scratched, bruised and limping, Pippa had a grin on her face
that could not be contained for the rest of the evening. Pippa surprised
everyone there with the amount of punishment she took, not to mention what
she dished out.
This match would have brought the house down for any major promotion.
